Top 5 Super Bowl Commercials of 2013

Posted by Papa Kenn On February - 4 - 2013 1 Comment

The big Super Bowl of 2013 has come and gone, leaving Ravens fans ecstatic and 49ers fans more than a little annoyed. But really, the main reason most people watch the annual Super Bowl is for the commercials. Yes, those glorious advertisements that companies fork out millions of dollars to have air (even though many of the commercials could be seen on YouTube nearly a week before the big game).

As usual, the ads were very hit-and-miss, with most falling somewhere into that middle-ground of being neither impressive enough nor horrible enough to warrant paying attention to. There really were some great ones though, and today I would like to share my Top 5 Super Bowl Commercials of 2013!

#5 – Toyota: “Wish Granted”

Despite seeing this ad from Toyota several times on YouTube before its “premiere” at the Super Bowl, it is easily the most fun commercial that they’ve put out since the big incident behind certain cars getting the gas pedals stuck a few years back. Since then, they focused heavily on putting the customers first in advertising, which is fine and all. Seeing this return to the “fun side” of things really put a smile on my face though. Of course, so does Kaley Cuoco (aka Penny on The Big Bang Theory).

#4 – KIA Forte: “Hotbots”

Is the use of animatronic/cyborg/robot women in this ad objectifying? Well…yes. But the payoff at the end had me in giggle-fits! It may not be the best ad to come from KIA, but after the over-saturation of cute that spawned from the KIA Soul Hamster commercials, it’s a welcome change in my opinion.

#3 – Mercedes-Benz: “Soul” (starring Willem Dafoe)

Willem Dafoe as the devil. What else can I say?

#2 – Tide: “Joe Montana Miracle Stain”

Not only was this commercial hilarious, but potentially offensive to anyone that believes that Jesus’ face actually appears on tortillas or the face of the Virgin Mary appears in miscellaneous baked goods!

#1 – Doritos: “Goat 4 Sale”

If you don’t laugh at this commercial, you have no soul. One of my favorite Doritos commercials to come out in years!

And there you have it, my Top 5 commercials from this year’s Super Bowl! I’d love to hear what everyone thinks of my Top 5, and would love to hear what commercials would fall into yours!

Stay tuned for tomorrow, when I’ll be presenting my Top 5 WORST Super Bowl Commercials of 2013!
